Detectives from the Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged Michael Danso, age 38, of the 3800 block of Ogilvie Court in Woodbridge, Virginia, with attempting to commit two carjackings on March 23 in downtown Silver Spring.
At approximately 8:55 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, the Emergency Communications Center (911) received a call for the report of an attempted carjacking that just occurred. The adult female victim stated that she had parked her car in the area of Ripley Street and Dixon Avenue and was exiting her vehicle when the suspect approached her. The suspect assaulted the victim, stole her car keys, and attempted to enter the victim’s vehicle. The victim struggled with the suspect, regained her car keys, and drove from the area. The victim immediately called the police and provided responding officers with a description of the suspect.
A few minutes later, the Emergency Communications Center received a call for an assault in progress in the area of Ripley Street and Dixon Avenue. The description of the suspect provided to Emergency Communications Center personnel matched the description of the suspect in the earlier attempted carjacking. 3rd District officers who responded to the assault call located the suspect, now identified as Danso, still in the area of Ripley Street and Dixon Avenue.
Officers determined that during this second incident, Danso approached the victim, a delivery driver and demanded a ride. The victim refused, and the suspect assaulted the victim and attempted to carjack his vehicle.
Danso was arrested and transported to police headquarters. During a police interview, Danso made admissions as to his involvement in both attempted carjackings.
Danso was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with two counts of attempted carjacking and second-degree assault. He is being held without bond.
