Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision Involving a Dirt Bike in Takoma Park

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision involving a dirt bike that occurred yesterday evening in Takoma Park. 

On Friday, March 26 at approximately 9:48 p.m., Takoma Park Police Department officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to New Hampshire Avenue at Glenside Drive for the report of a serious collision involving a dirt bike. 

Preliminary investigation has determined that a Honda CRF 250R dirt bike was traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue approaching Glenside Drive.  A 2017 Hyundai Sonata was traveling north on New Hampshire Avenue and was attempting to turn left onto Glenside Drive.  For reasons still under investigation, the dirt bike and the Sonata collided in the intersection.  

The operator of the dirt bike, identified as Derlin Samuel Santos Dubon, age 23, of the 700 block of Auburn Avenue in Takoma Park, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. 

The driver of the Hyundai Sonata, identified as Niya Lawrence, age 26, of Jackson Avenue in Takoma Park, was not injured in the collision.  An adult male passenger in the Sonata was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
