Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision in Gaithersburg

For Immediate Release: Monday, March 29, 2021

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred yesterday evening in Gaithersburg.

On Sunday, March 28, at approximately 10:25 p.m., 6th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Airpark Road near Muncaster Mill Road for the report of a serious collision that had just occurred.

Preliminary investigation by detectives determined that a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling west on Airpark Road approaching Muncaster Mill Road.  A 2019 Isuzu dump truck was traveling east on Airpark Road past Muncaster Mill.  For reasons still under investigation, the Jetta left the roadway, became airborne, and collided with the dump truck in the eastbound lane of Airpark Road.

The driver of the dump truck, identified as Jacob Darien Jack, age 26, of Old Baltimore Road in Olney, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The front-seat passenger in the dump truck, identified as Jack Tyler Wert, age 27, of Joy Lane in Damascus, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Wert succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the Jetta, identified as Ryan Alexander Yoder, age 17, of Broom Drive in Olney, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
