Suspect Charged with First-Degree Rape; Possibility of Additional Victims a Concern

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, March 30, 2021

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) have arrested and charged Joseph Holland, age 34, of the 24100 block of Woodfield Road in Gaithersburg, with the first-degree rape of an adult female victim.

The investigation by SVID detectives has determined that Holland and the victim met on a dating app and planned to go to dinner at a restaurant in Montgomery County.  On March 20, Holland drove to the victim’s home and instead of taking her to dinner, drove her to his house.  At his home, Holland sexually assaulted the victim.  The victim was able to exit the home and flag down a passing motorist, who assisted the victim in calling 911.

Holland was arrested on the strength of a criminal warrant on March 26 and transported to the Central Processing Unit.  He is being held without bond.

Detectives are concerned Holland may have sexually assaulted other victims.  Anyone who believes he/she was victimized by Holland is asked to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5050.
