Suspect Charged for Committing Nineteen Commercial Burglaries in Downtown Bethesda Area

Detectives from the 2nd District have charged Patrick Stanley Nichols, age 56, of the 3900 block of Connecticut Avenue in Northwest, Washington, D.C., for committing 18 commercial burglaries in the downtown Bethesda area between January 4 and March 24.  Nichols was also determined to be the suspect who committed a commercial burglary at an office building in Bethesda in February of 2020.

Beginning in January, 2nd District detectives began investigating multiple commercial burglaries that occurred in the downtown Bethesda area.  During these burglaries, the suspect forced entry into the businesses and stole property.

The dates and locations where these eleven burglaries occurred are listed below:

  • Between January 4 and January 21 - eight burglaries occurred at a business located in the 7700 block of Old Georgetown Road.

  • March 5, March 7, and March 9 - business located in the 4300 block of East West Highway.

  • March 12, March 13, and March 16 – business located in the 4300 block of East West Highway (this was not the same business that was burglarized on March 5, 7, and 9).

  • March 17 – business located in the 7900 block of Norfolk Avenue.

  • March 20 – business located in the 4900 block of St. Elmo Avenue.

  • March 24 – two burglaries occurred at the same business located in the 7300 block of Wisconsin Avenue.

During the investigation, detectives identified Nichols as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest that charged him with eighteen counts of burglary-related offenses.

Nichols was also charged for committing a February 22, 2020 burglary that occurred at an office building located in the 6700 block of Rockledge Drive in Bethesda.

Nichols was arrested on March 25 and transported to the Central Processing Unit.  He is being held on a $3,500 bond.
