Detectives Investigate Single-Vehicle Fatal Collision in Fairland

For Immediate Release: Monday, April 12, 2021

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred this morning in the Fairland area.    

Today, Monday, April 12, at approximately 5:26 a.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Columbia Pike (Route US-29) and Briggs Chaney Road for a report of a serious collision.    

Preliminary investigation has determined that a 2011 Toyota RAV4 was traveling north on Columbia Pike.  For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota RAV4 left the roadway and struck a concrete wall on the right side of the roadway.    

The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota RAV 4, Anavela Marizol Gordillo Cruz, age 56, of Kensington, was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries
