Suspect Charged with Armed Robbery of United States Postal Service Employee in Aspen Hill

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department, working in coordination with Postal Inspectors with the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), have arrested and charged David Louis Walton, age 31, of an unconfirmed address, with the February 2 armed robbery of a United States Postal Service (USPS) letter carrier in Aspen Hill.  

Investigators continue to look into the possibility that Walton was involved in other similar robberies of mail carriers in the area.

On February 2, at approximately 10:50 a.m., 4^th District officers and USPIS postal inspectors responded to the area of Elm Tree Lane and Elm Tree Court for the report of an armed robbery that just occurred.

The investigation by MCP detectives determined that the carrier was delivering mail when the suspect approached him and threatened him with a handgun.  The suspect demanded USPS property and the victim complied with the suspect’s demands.

During a joint investigation between MCP detectives and USPIS postal inspectors, Walton was developed as the suspect.  Latent fingerprints a 4^th District officer recovered from the scene later confirmed Walton as the suspect.

On March 19, MCP detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Walton charging him with armed robbery.

On April 15, MCP detectives, USPIS postal inspectors, members of the United States Marshals Service, and members of the Metropolitan Police Department arrested Walton in Southeast, Washington D.C.  

On April 20, Walton was extradited to Montgomery County and is being held without bond.
