Victim Injured During Carjacking in Gaithersburg

For Immediate Release: Thursday, June 10, 2021

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division continue to investigate a carjacking that occurred in the 400 block of Whetstone Glen Street in Gaithersburg yesterday afternoon.

On June 9 at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call for the report of a personal injury collision in the area of Whetstone Glen Street and Girard Street.

Montgomery County Police Department and Gaithersburg Police Department officers responded to the area and located an adult male laying face down in the intersection.  The adult male was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Through investigation, detectives determined that the adult male had been a victim of a carjacking.  Two suspects, described as a black male and a light-complected unknown race male, arrived to the area in a gold Chevrolet Malibu.  The two suspects entered a residential garage in the 400 block of Whetstone Glen Street and during an interaction with the victim, stole the victim’s black Lexus SUV. Witnesses observed the victim on the hood of the Lexus as one of the suspects drove it from the area; the victim was shouting for someone to call police.  The victim travelled approximately 100 yards on top of the hood before he fell from the Lexus. The second suspect fled from the scene in the Chevrolet Malibu.

The stolen Lexus was recovered unoccupied last night in Washington, D.C.

Anyone with information about these carjacking suspects is urged to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070 or contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or online.  Callers can remain anonymous.
