Montgomery County Police Investigating Two Fatal Collisions

UPDATE: Victims’ Names Released in Sept. 13 Fatalities

Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit have identified the two victims in Monday’s separate fatalities as 52-year-old Nwe Nwe Ni of Silver Spring and 28-year-old Jeffrey Loberiza Chatterjie of Derwood.

Gaithersburg, MD – The Montgomery County Department of Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is investigating two fatalities that occurred on the evening of Monday, September 13.

At approximately 9 p.m., the Montgomery County Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Veirs Mill Rd. and Ferrara Dr. in Silver Spring.

Responding officers and Fire Rescue personnel located a 52-year-old woman lying in the eastbound lane of Veirs Mill Road. The driver of the vehicle, a red 2019 Honda Passport SUV, remained on scene. The pedestrian died on scene as a result of her injuries.

 It is not known at this time whether or not the pedestrian was in a crosswalk.

An hour later, at approximately 10:17 p.m., ECC received a call reporting a collision involving a 2016 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and a 2018 Lexus RX350 near the intersection of Crabbs Branch Rd. and Indian Hill Dr. in Derwood. Upon arrival, Montgomery County officers and Fire Rescue units located a 28-year-old male who was pronounced dead on scene.

Preliminary investigation by CRU has determined that the operator of the Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling northbound on Crabbs Branch Way approaching Indian Hills Dr. The operator of the Lexus was traveling southbound on Crabbs Branch Way and was attempting to turn left onto Indian Hills Dr. The motorcycle collided with right passenger door of the Lexus. The operator of the Lexus was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Both are open and active investigations and names of victims are not being released at this time. Anyone with information regarding these collisions is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
