Detectives Investigate Attempted Carjacking in Silver Spring; Surveillance Video of Suspects Released

Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Major Crimes Division are investigating the August 25 attempted carjacking that occurred at a shopping center in Silver Spring. Detectives have released surveillance video of the suspects and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.  

 

On August 25, at approximately 12:40 a.m., 4th District officers responded to the 12500 block of Georgia Ave. for the report of an attempted carjacking that just occurred. 

 

The victim stated that he parked his 2006 Lexus in the parking lot of a shopping center in the 1400 block of Layhill Rd. in Silver Spring. While the victim was sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, three suspects approached him. One of the suspects opened the driver side door and attempted to remove the victim from the vehicle by pulling his arm. The victim managed to stay in the vehicle and to drive away from the suspects. The victim then drove to the 12500 block of Georgia Ave. and contacted the police. 

 

The investigation by detectives determined that after attempting to steal the vehicle from the victim, the suspects boarded a Ride-on bus that headed southbound on Layhill Rd. towards the Glenmont Shopping Center.
