Detectives Investigate Fraud in Wheaton Area

Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – 3rd District Investigative Section are investigating an August driver’s license fraud that occurred in the Wheaton area. Detectives are releasing a surveillance image of the suspect and asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

The investigation by detectives determined that an unknown suspect used a driver’s license to fraudulently rent a vehicle on July 10, 2021, in the 1500 block of South Capital St. of SW Washington, DC, which was later used in an armed robbery. 

During the investigation, detectives further determined that the driver’s license used was stolen during an auto theft that occurred on June 23 in the 14000 block of Castle Boulevard. The stolen driver’s license was also used by the suspect to pawn items on August 19 and August 20 in the 11000 block of Georgia Avenue.
