Prescription Drug Take Back Day Event

UPDATE : October 26, 2021 : On Saturday October 23, The Montgomery County Police Department participated in the Washington Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Prescription Drug Take Back Day event. Community members were encouraged to drop off unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs at one of 13 different sites throughout the county.
Understanding the prevalence of opioid overdoses and abuse, this event was of particular importance for the community to safely dispose of unused and unwanted opioid prescriptions.
A safe, free and anonymous opportunity, this event was part of a national effort to prevent the increasing problem of prescription drug abuse that continues to occur nationwide.
On Saturday October 23, Montgomery County Police and the DEA received over 535 pounds of unused, unwanted, and expired prescriptions. Thank you to all who participated in making this Drug Take Back day a success for our community.

Gaithersburg, MD - On Saturday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., community members can drop off unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs, as Montgomery County participates in the Washington Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
Understanding the prevalence of opioid overdoses and abuse, this event is a particularly important means for the public to safely dispose of unused and unwanted opioid prescriptions.
This is a safe, free and anonymous opportunity to dispose of unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs and is a part of a national effort to prevent the increasing problems of prescription drug abuse and that continues to occur nationwide.
Drop-off locations will be open to the general public throughout Montgomery County. These locations will accept prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications only. Liquids, illicit drugs, needles, sharps and syringes cannot be accepted as part of this take-back program.
