Montgomery County Detectives Investigate Carjacking in Silver Spring; Surveillance Video of Suspect Released

Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - Major Crimes Division are investigating the November 7 carjacking that occurred near a gas station in the 3000 block of Briggs Chaney Rd. in Silver Spring. Detectives have released surveillance video of the male suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.    

   

At approximately 11:15 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the intersection of Robey Rd. and Ballinger Dr. for the report of a vehicle collision that just occurred. 

 

The investigation by detectives determined that the 30-year-old and 68-year-old female victims arrived in a 2018 gray Jetta Volkswagen at the location. The 68-year-old victim parked the vehicle near the location, exited the vehicle and walked to the gas station to make a purchase. The 30-year-old victim was seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle when the suspect opened the driver’s door, sat in the driver’s seat and ordered the victim to exit the vehicle. The victim exited the vehicle, and the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle traveling towards Briggs Chaney Rd., where he was involved in a single vehicle collision. The suspect removed property from the vehicle, abandoned the vehicle in the area of Robey Rd. and Ballinger Dr. and fled the scene on foot.  

 

The suspect was described as a black male, in his 30’s, wearing a white facemask, a black jacket and blue jeans.
