Detectives Investigate Fatal Hit & Run Collision in Wheaton

Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit have identified the victim in a January 17, 2022 fatality as 59-year-old Luz Marina Roa from Wheaton


Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal hit and run collision that occurred today, January 17, 2022 at the intersection of Veirs Mill Rd. and Ferrara Ave. in Wheaton.  


At approximately 6:22 p.m., 4th District Officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle, which was later identified as a silver or light blue 2012-2015 Volkswagen Passat based on the evidence found at the scene.  


The investigation by detectives has determined that the vehicle was traveling westbound on Veirs Mill Rd. at Ferrara Ave. The pedestrian was attempting to cross Veirs Mill Rd. from north to south when the two collided on westbound Veirs Mill Rd. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without rendering aid to the pedestrian.  


The striking vehicle has possible damage to the front bumper, headlight, hood, grille, side mirror, or windshield. 


The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The decedent was identified as a 59-year-old female from Wheaton.
