Detectives Investigate Serious Collision In Germantown

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a collision involving a bicyclist that occurred today, March 11, near the intersection of Frederick Road and Stringtown Road in Germantown.

 

At approximately 4:27 p.m., 5th District Officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a bicyclist that was struck by a Peterbilt tractor trailer.

 

The investigation by detectives revealed that the adult male bicyclist, who had been operating a black and blue Haro bicycle, and the operator of the 2009 purple Peterbilt tractor trailer were both traveling north on Frederick Road, passing Stringtown Road. While the truck was overtaking the bicycle, the operator of the bicycle struck the rear portion of the trailer, causing him to fall and was subsequently struck by the trailer. The driver of the tractor trailer remained on scene and was uninjured.

 

The bicyclist was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.
