Montgomery County Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Gaithersburg, MD - A pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Rockledge Drive in Bethesda has succumbed to her injuries.

 At approximately 11:20 a.m., on Friday, May 6, the operator of a blue 2005 Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Rockledge Drive approaching Democracy Boulevard. The operator struck a pedestrian in the southbound lanes as the pedestrian attempted to cross from the median separating the north and south travel lanes of Rockledge Drive.

The operator of the Honda and several witnesses stopped and rendered aid. The pedestrian, 84-year-old Carole Barbara Weiss, was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on May 17.

The initial investigation by the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) has revealed the pedestrian crossed to the center median, toward the western side of Rockledge Drive, and entered the southbound lanes of Rockledge Drive, where she was struck.

This remains an ongoing investigation and charges will be determined upon completion of the investigation by CRU.
