Detectives Investigate River Rd. Fatality; Victim’s Identity Released

Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatality that occurred on the early afternoon of July 13, 2022, in the area of River Rd. and Stoney Creek Rd. 

  

At approximately 1:50 p.m., 1st District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a traffic collision. 

  

The investigation by detectives has determined that the driver of a white 2019 Ford F-550 was traveling westbound on River Rd. The driver of a silver 2012 Toyota Camry was attempting to make a left turn from southbound Stoney Creek Rd. onto eastbound River Rd. This intersection is controlled by a stop sign located on Stoney Creek Rd.  

  

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has been identified as 79-year-old Sam Mingsan Chen, of Rockville.  

 

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
