Three 14-Year-Olds Charged in Rockville Attempted Armed Carjacking

Gaithersburg, MD – Three 14-year-old males from Washington, D.C., have been arrested and charged with an attempted armed carjacking that occurred on October 3, 2022, in Rockville Town Square.

 

 

At approximately 11:50 a.m., Montgomery County First District and Rockville City Police officers responded to the 20 block of Maryland Avenue for the report of an attempted armed carjacking that just occurred.

 

 

The investigation revealed that the victim was walking away from her parked 2019 Toyota Rav4, when three individuals, all wearing ski masks, quickly approached her. One of the teens ran up to the victim, pushing her, causing her to hit a concrete pillar and fall to ground. The teen than stood over her with a black gun and demanded the victim’s car keys.

 

 

The victim began screaming, which attracted the attention of witnesses. When the bystanders ran to help the victim, the three teens ran away. The witnesses followed the teens and took pictures. Near the intersection of East Middle Lane and Helen Heneghan Way, one of the teenagers turned and pointed a gun at the witnesses, causing them to back off.

 

 

Approximately thirty minutes later, an officer from the Rockville City Police Department observed the three suspects near route 355 and East Gude Drive. Additional officers responded an all three were detained without incident. Located in a bookbag was a black BB gun and three ski masks.

 

 

The three teenage boys were transported to the Montgomery County Police Department Headquarters, for processing. All three were charged with attempted armed carjacking and first-degree assault.

 

The Department of Juvenile Services has been consulted, and all three were released to the custody of their parents under, "community detention."
