Detectives Investigate Carjacking on Bel Pre Road; Surveillance Footage of Suspects Released

Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a carjacking that occurred in the 3700 block of Bel Pre Rd. in Silver Spring on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Detectives have released surveillance video of the male suspects and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them.   

 

At approximately 10:35 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the location for the report of a carjacking that just occurred.     

    

The investigation by detectives has determined that an adult male victim was walking to his 2019 dark blue/gray Toyota Corolla when he was approached by five suspects. The suspects surrounded the victim and demanded the key to his Toyota. When the victim refused to comply with their demands, the suspects assaulted him, took away the key to his Toyota and ran away. The victim followed the suspects in an effort to retrieve the key to his Toyota. The suspects returned to the scene, and one of them left the scene in the victim’s vehicle. 

 

Several hours later, officers located the Toyota abandoned with damage at the intersection of New Hampshire Ave. and Heartsfields Rd. Officers determined that the Toyota had been involved in a traffic collision.  

 

One of the suspects is described as a Black male, approximately 16 years old, 130 lbs and approximately 5-feet, 4-inches tall.   

 

Another suspect is described as an unknown race male, wearing a red jacket, 170 lbs, and 5-feet, 7-inches tall.
