Detectives Investigate Fatal Hit-and-Run Involving Bicyclist on Georgia Avenue (UPDATE)

UPDATE: On Friday, October 28, 2022, the 19-year-old bicyclist succumbed to his injuries while in an area hospital. The decedent has been identified as William Villavicencio, of Silver Spring.

Gaithersburg, MD- Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a hit-and-run collision involving a bicyclist that occurred on Sunday, October 23, 2022.   

At approximately 11 p.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of George Ave. and Janet Rd. for the report of a bicyclist who was hit by a vehicle.   

The preliminary investigation by detectives determined that a dark red or maroon 2003-2007 Honda Accord, was traveling south on Georgia Ave., when it struck a 19-year-old male bicyclist, that was traveling west across the roadway. The victim was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle did not remain on scene.  

Detectives are currently searching for the striking vehicle, which has damage to the front right bumper and is missing the right side view mirror.
