Detectives Investigate Rockville Pike Pedestrian Fatality; Victim’s Identity Released

Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a pedestrian fatality that occurred on Friday, October 28, 2022, in the 1000 block of Rockville Pike.  

   

At approximately 8:58 p.m., Rockville City Police officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.   

   

The investigation by detectives has determined that the pedestrian was crossing Rockville Pike from east to west in the 1000 block of Rockville Pike when she was struck by a tan 2004 Toyota Camry that was traveling northbound on Rockville Pike. The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene.  

 

The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on November 11, 2022. The decedent has been identified as 35-year-old Sonia Maribel Mejia Cruz, of Rockville.  

  

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
