Adult Male Arrested and Charged with the Dollar Tree Robberies and Dunkin’ Donuts Theft

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested 32-year-old Hakeem Morris, unknown address, with the two robberies of the Dollar Tree store on Mateny Rd. and with the theft of the Dunkin’ Donuts store on Mateny Rd. that occurred in November 2022. 

 

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at approximately 8:31 p.m., 5th District officers responded to the Dollar Tree store in the 18000 block of Mateny Rd. for the report of a strong-arm robbery that just occurred.

 

The investigation by detectives has determined that Morris entered the store, picked up merchandise to purchase and went to the counter. While an employee was helping another customer, Morris pushed the employee out of the way. The two struggled and Morris stole an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and left the scene.

 

On Friday, November 18, 2022, at approximately 8:23 p.m., Morris attempted to purchase an item from an employee who was working behind the counter of the Dollar Tree store on Mateny Rd. Morris then reached over the counter, forcibly removed an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and left the scene. 

 

On Sunday, November 20, 2022, at approximately 8:38 p.m., Morris entered the Dunkin’ Donuts in the 18000 block of Mateny Rd. and paid for a food item with an employee who was working behind the counter. When the employee opened the cash register to complete the transaction, Morris reached over the counter and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and left the scene. 

 

Detectives reviewed the surveillance cameras of the stores and obtained a description of Morris. 

 

Through the investigation, detectives identified Morris as the suspect. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant, charging Morris with robbery and theft related charges. 

 

On Monday, November 21, 2022, Morris was arrested in Germantown, MD and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he has been released on a $5,000 bond.
