Two Hundred Twenty-Seven Impaired Drivers Arrested During Holiday Task Force Initiative

Gaithersburg, MD – Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Holiday Alcohol Task Force have been devoting their full time and attention to detecting alcohol-related offenses this holiday season to save lives and reduce impaired driving violations in our roadways.   

  

This task force typically starts the week before thanksgiving and ends the first week of January. Montgomery County Police officers and officers from allied agencies (Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Rockville City Police, Takoma Park Police, Gaithersburg Police, Maryland State Police and Maryland National Capital Park Police) volunteer to work the task force.   

  

Since the start of this holiday season, officers have arrested 227 individuals for operating motor vehicles while impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.   

  

On Saturday, December 17, 2022, the task force conducted a joint impaired driving enforcement initiative with Howard County Police and Maryland State Police. During this initiative, Montgomery County Police - task force officers made 84 traffic stops, resulting in 127 traffic citations, 79 traffic warnings, six equipment repair orders and nine individuals arrested for impaired driving, three of them had been previously charged with impaired driving offenses and three who had alcohol restrictions on their driver’s licenses.  

  

Montgomery County Police is reminding residents to always make the decision to choose a sober ride during this holiday season.
