Montgomery County Police Investigating Fatal Shooting Inside a Metro Bus

Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division, Homicide Section are investigating the shooting death of a 19-year-old that occurred on a Metro bus.


On Friday, February 17, 2023, at approximately 7:40 p.m., 3rd District officers on patrol in the Vista at White Oak apartments witnessed a WMATA Metro Bus pulled over on Lockwood Drive.  The officers stopped to assist and discovered that a shooting had occurred inside of the bus.  

 

The victim had been removed from the bus when officers arrived, and the officers attempted life-saving-measures until Montgomery County Fire Rescue arrived. Justice T’Ziyan Elliott was pronounced dead on scene.

 

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Elliott, of Silver Spring, was seated in the back of the bus when the suspect boarded the bus and confronted Elliott. Words were exchanged, the suspect pulled out a handgun, shot Elliott and ran from the bus.

The suspect is described as a Black male, thin build, 5-feet, 10-inches tall, wearing all black clothing and a black face mask.

 

At the time of the shooting, there were other passengers on the bus. Homicide detectives are asking for those passengers to call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect. Callers may remain anonymous.
