Detectives Investigate Hampshire Green Lane Homicide; Victim's Identity Released

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, March 8, 2023

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, in the 1700 block of Hampshire Green Ln.  

At approximately 9:02 p.m., 3rd district officers responded to the location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from apparent gunshots wounds and provided life saving measures until Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel arrived. The victim, 20-year-old Walter Woods, of Takoma Park, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.  

The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C., where an autopsy will be conducted to officially determine the cause and manner of death.  

Currently, there is no one in custody. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
