Gaithersburg, MD – Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 4th District - Central Business District Team have arrested and charged 20-year-old Gregory Neverson of Upper Marlboro with illegal possession of a stolen handgun and possession with the intent to distribute Cannabis on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
At approximately 2:45 p.m., officers were conducting bicycle patrol at the Wheaton Metro Station when they detected the smell of marijuana and observed an individual, later identified as Gregory Neverson, smoking in public. Neverson handed over the marijuana cigarette as well as a bag containing suspected marijuana to the officers.
Neverson gave officers consent to a search of his person. While conducting the pat down, officers located a handgun in the right pocket of Neverson’s jacket. Neverson then resisted arrest and ran away with the handgun towards to the rear area of apartments in the 11100 block of Georgia Ave. A concerned resident witnessed Neverson running away and told officers where Neverson was hiding.
Officers searched the area and found Neverson hiding behind a generator underneath two discarded mattresses. Neverson was taken into custody without further incident. A search of the immediate area revealed a Walther PDP 9mm handgun, with a loaded magazine, discarded by Neverson. Detectives discovered that the handgun had been stolen in February 2023 and that Neverson is prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.
Officers also located a large amount of suspected marijuana inside Neverson’s backpack, which also contained a digital scale believed to measure the drug for resale.
Neverson was charged with possession with the intent to distribute Cannabis and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was also charged with illegal possession of ammunition and stolen firearm related charges. He is being held without bond.
