Collision Reconstruction Unit Investigating Clopper Road Fatal Collision

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 10, 2023

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, on Clopper Rd. between Waring Station Rd. and Game Preserve Rd.

At approximately 12:37 a.m., 6th District officers and Montgomery County Fire rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a single-vehicle collision.

The investigation by detectives has revealed that a silver 2018 Honda CR-V was traveling north on Clopper Rd., when for reasons still under investigation, it left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The driver, and sole occupant, of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The decedent has been identified as 19-year-old Samuel Isaac Castaneda, of Germantown.
