Prohibited Man Arrested for Openly Carrying an AR Pistol in Germantown

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, May 30, 2023

Gaithersburg, MD – 30-year-old, Trevor Copeland of Silver Spring has been arrested after walking around a Germantown neighborhood, while openly carrying an AR pistol.  


On Thursday, April 27, 2023, officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District- Community Action Team received a report of an individual walking around an apartment complex in the 23000 block of Sweetgum Circle, carrying an AR pistol and knocking on the doors of random private residents.  


When officers arrived at the complex, they quickly made contact with Copeland, who was on the 3rd floor. Following several minutes of negotiation, officers were able to quickly apprehend Copeland without incident. 


When Copeland was taken into custody, he was in possession of a Privately Manufactured Firearm (PMF) AR pistol loaded with 300 Blackout Ammunition, with one round in the chamber.  


Following an initial on scene investigation, officers were able to determine that Copeland was prohibited from possession of any firearms or ammunition.

Copeland was transported to the Central Processing Unit, where he has been charged with multiple firearms related charges. He is currently being held without bond.
