Final Suspect Arrested for 2022 Wheaton Stabbing

Gaithersburg, MD- Kevin Vargas Gomez, age 20, Jose Ingles Mendez, age 30, and Heidy Gomez Rodriguez, age 36, all of Silver Spring have been arrested in connection with the Sunday, August 21, 2022, stabbing that occurred near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Reedie Drive in Wheaton.  

 

Montgomery County Police – 4th District Patrol Investigations Unit (PIU) learned that Vargas Gomez and Ingles Mendez approached the victim in the 2400 block of Reedie Drive and began to punch him repeatedly before hitting him with a bottle causing it to break. They then used the broken bottle to stab the victim repeatedly. The victim was able to get away and ran towards Georgia Avenue. Vargas Gomez and Ingles Mendez chased after the victim and continued to punch and kick him in the street. Gomez Rodriguez picked up both Ingles Mendez and Vargas Gomez in a vehicle and drove away from the scene of the assault.   


The victim was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries.   


Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified Vargas Gomez, Ingles Mendez and Gomez Rodriguez, all of Silver Spring, as suspects.  

 

On October 5, 2022, detectives applied for a warrant charging Vargas Gomez with one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree assault. On October 12, 2022, Vargas Gomez was arrested by officers of the Montgomery County Police Department. 

 

On October 14, 2022, detectives applied for a warrant for both Gomez Rodriguez and Ingles Mendez.  


On October 27, 2022, Gomez Rodriguez was located, arrested and transported to CPU where she was charged with conspiracy to attempt first-degree murder, conspiracy to attempt second-degree murder, conspiracy of assault in the first-degree and second-degree assault.   

 

On Friday, May 26, 2023, Ingles Mendez was arrested by officers of the Rockville City Police Department. Ingles Mendez was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit (CPU) and charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree assault.  He is currently being held without bond.
