Bethesda Man Charged with Attempted Murder of Parents

A Bethesda man has been arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault of his parents on Sunday, June 25, 2023.  

 

24-year-old Joseph Michael Bowers of Bethesda is accused of stabbing his parents with a knife in the 6500 block of Greentree Road in Bethesda on Sunday evening.  

 

At approximately 11:50 p.m., MCP 2nd District officers responded to the location for the report of a domestic-related assault. Upon arrival, officers located Bowers’ 62-year-old mother and father outside of their residence, both suffering from multiple stab wounds. Both parents were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.  

 

Detectives were able to identify Bowers as the suspect and a warrant for his arrest was requested. Bowers was located inside his parent’s residence and taken into custody at approximately 5:18 a.m., on Monday, June 26, 2023, without incident.  

 

Bowers was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with attempted second-degree murder, first degree assault and weapons related charges.
