Dealer Charged in Connection with Fentanyl Overdose of Silver Spring Man

For Immediate Release: Friday, June 30, 2023

Gaithersburg, MD - A Silver Spring man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter and distribution of a controlled substance in connection with the death of an adult male who overdosed last Christmas.

Junior Salvador Alvarez Paz is accused of selling a controlled substance to the victim the morning of Sunday, December 25, 2022. Following an autopsy, the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be caused by fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl intoxication.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - Drug Enforcement Section determined that the 22-year-old suspect had communicated with the victim Christmas morning and arranged to meet, where Alvarez Paz allegedly sold drugs to the victim.

On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, lab results from the drug found in the victim’s possession, returned a positive result of fentanyl.

Alvarez Paz was arrested on Tuesday, June 27, in Silver Spring and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit where he is being held without bond.
