Montgomery Village Man Charged with Illegal Possession of Firearm Following Traffic Stop

Gaithersburg, MD –18-year-old, Jose Amaya from Montgomery Village has been arrested and charged with illegal possession of a handgun following a traffic stop in Gaithersburg.  

On Monday, November 13, 2023, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police 6th District Community Action Team initiated a traffic stop of a Cadillac Escalade in the 9600 block of Lost Knife Circle.   

Through the course of the investigation a K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers were unable to locate any narcotics, however officers found a loaded un-serialized privately manufactured firearm (PMF) under the driver’s seat.  

Amaya, the driver of the Cadillac, was determined to be a prohibited person from possessing a firearm.  

Amaya was arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and other firearm related offenses. He is currently being held without bond.
