Anonymous Tipster Leads to Break in Wheaton Shopping Center Burglaries

For Immediate Release: Friday, December 1, 2023

Gaithersburg, MD – 21-year-old Joe Ramsey, of Washington D.C., has been arrested and charged with multiple commercial burglaries following an anonymous tip to the Crime Solvers call center on September 7, 2023, that assisted in leading detectives to his identification.  


On Monday, April 3, 2023, at approximately 8:11 a.m., Ramsey entered the Westfield Wheaton Shopping Center and broke into the stand-alone, Cellairis kiosk. The suspect stole property and an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving the area. 

 

On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at approximately 8 p.m., Ramsey re-entered the shopping center and began to walk around the Toy World kiosk. Ramsey then approached the kiosk, stole an undisclosed amount of cash and walked away. Ramsey then walked around the shopping center looking at other kiosks. He approached Rico’s Ice Cream, jumped over the counter, opened the register and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. 

 

Following the tipster’s call, detectives, through further investigation, were able to positively identify Ramsey.  

 

On Friday, September 29, 2023, detectives applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for Ramsey.   

 

On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, Ramsey was arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with multiple burglary and theft related offenses.  

 

He is currently being held without bond.  

 

Crimes Solvers is a program designed to enlist the assistance of the community to aid in helping the Montgomery County Police Department solve crimes. If information is provided that leads to an arrest or indictment of a suspect, the tipster may be entitled to a reward of up to $10,000.
