Silver Spring Man Charged in Connection with Death of Disabled Relative

Gaithersburg, MD – The death of a 66-year-old disabled man, who was found dead inside of a Silver Spring apartment, has been ruled a homicide. 

 

On Friday, December 1, 2023, at approximately 7:07 p.m., Montgomery County Department of Police- 3rd District officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Heather Hollow Circle. 

 

Once on scene, officers found an adult male victim in a wheelchair. The victim, Leon Perkins, of Silver Spring, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

 

The preliminary investigation revealed that Perkins, who suffered from serious medical issues, showed signs of trauma to his body. 

 

Perkins was being cared for by 55-year-old Charles Parker, a family relative. Parker called Perkins’ wife to report that the victim had fallen. When the victim’s wife responded to the apartment, she found him deceased. 

 

Perkins’ body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy was conducted, and details of the autopsy are pending.

 

Through the course of the investigation, detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division developed Parker, of Silver Spring, as the suspect.  

On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, Parker was served an arrest warrant for Perkins’ death and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit where he is being held without bond.
