Crime Solvers Tip Leads to Arrest in Bethesda Mail Theft; Additional Suspect Outstanding

Gaithersburg, MD – 19-year-old Dawud Aubry Drayton, of Oxon Hill, has been arrested and charged for a mail theft he allegedly committed on Saturday, August 19, 2023, following multiple tips to the Crime Solvers call center.

  

On Saturday, August 19, 2023, 2nd District officers responded to the 5400 block of Westbard Ave. for the report of a theft that occurred earlier. 

The investigation by detectives has determined that two suspects entered the secured building after a resident opened the lobby door to pick up a food delivery. Once in the building, the suspects stole multiple packages belonging to residents. 

Through the course of the investigation, to include multiple anonymous tips to Crime Solvers, detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Investigative Section identified Drayton as one of the suspects. 

On Friday, December 8, 2023, Drayton was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with burglary and theft. He was released on bond.   

Crimes Solvers is a program designed to enlist the assistance of the community to aid in helping the Montgomery County Police Department solve crimes. If information is provided that leads to an arrest or indictment of a suspect, the tipster may be entitled to a reward of up to $10,000 

Detectives continue to search for the second suspect.
