Detectives Investigate Colesville Road Fatal Collision; Victim's Identity Released

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a collision that occurred on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.


At approximately 1:08 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Colesville Road and Timberwood Avenue for the report of a two-vehicle collision.

The preliminary investigation has determined that the driver of a gray 2016 Subaru Forester was attempting to make a left turn from southbound Colesville Road to Timberwood Avenue, when it was struck by a silver 2017 Nissan Rouge traveling northbound on Colesville Road.

The driver of the Subaru and both passengers of the Nissan were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger of the Subaru was transported to an area hospital, with serious injuries.

On Sunday, January 28, the passenger of the Subaru, while still in the hospital, succumbed to his injuries.

The decedent has been identified as 79-year-old, Thambiraj Nathaniel of Beltsville.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
