Two Adult Males Arrested for Grocery Store Theft

Gaithersburg, MD – Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Station have arrested 31-year-old William Fernando Calix and 18-year-old Christian Alexander Gonzalez, following a theft that occurred at the Safeway store in the 10500 block of Connecticut Avenue.

 

On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at approximately 1:06 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the location for the report of an armed robbery.

 

The investigation has revealed that Calix and Gonzalez entered the Safeway and attempted to steal merchandise. When a loss prevention officer confronted the suspects and attempted to take back the merchandise, Calix displayed a knife and cut the loss prevention officer on the chest. Calix and Gonzalez then stole merchandise and walked out of the store.

 

Officers arrived on scene, spoke with the loss prevention officer and provided a description of the suspects over the radio. In the 3300 block of University Blvd. West, officers located Calix and Gonzalez and recovered the stolen merchandise. The loss prevention officer identified them as the suspects.

 

The loss prevention officer was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

 

Calix, of New Carrolton, and Gonzalez, of Hyattsville, were then placed under arrest. Gonzalez was charged with theft via a criminal citation and released. Calix was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with theft and first-degree assault. He was released on a $10,000 unsecured personal bond.
