Suspect Wanted in Connection with Series of Commercial Burglaries; Photograph of Suspect Released

For Immediate Release: Thursday, March 7, 2024

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 6th District Investigative Section are investigating a series of commercial burglaries allegedly committed by the same suspect during the first week of March 2024, in the area of Redland Road, Montgomery Village Avenue and Stedwick Road. Detectives have released a photograph of the suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

The investigation has revealed that on Sunday, March 3, at approximately 10:58 p.m., a male suspect damaged an exterior ATM with a rock at the Bank of America in the 17500 block of Redland Road.

Moments later, the suspect forced entry into the Spice Lanka restaurant located in the 17500 block of Redland Road, stole an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and left the restaurant.

The suspect then attempted to force entry into Derwood Beer and Wine in the 17600 block of Redland Road and left the scene without taking any property.

On Wednesday, March 6, at approximately 11:02 p.m., the suspect forced entry into Vida Hair Salon in the 19100 block of Montgomery Village Avenue and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and left the scene.

On Thursday, March 7, at approximately 3:21 a.m., the suspect forced entry into four additional businesses (Dollar Tree, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Ledo’s Pizza and The Joint Chiropractic) in the 19200 block of Montgomery Village Avenue and another business, Metro PCS, in the 9900 block of Stedwick Road. The suspect stole an undisclosed amount of money from Moe’s Southwest Grill before leaving the scene.

Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with business owners to determine if property or money was stolen from the other businesses.

At this time, detectives believe that the same suspect that committed the burglaries on March 3 also burglarized the other businesses on March 6 and March 7.

Detectives have obtained a photo of the suspect. The suspect is described as an adult Black male, approximately 5-feet, 10-inches tall, with a slim build, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
