Gaithersburg, MD - A Germantown man has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse of a minor.
Ervin Jeovany Alfaro Lopez was arrested on Monday, March 11, 2024, following an investigation by the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID). Detectives are concerned that there may be more victims that have not contacted police.
SVID Detectives began the investigation in May of 2023, after a victim reported being sexually abused by a teacher at a Derwood church located in the 15700 block of Crabbs Branch Way in Montgomery County.
Following the initial complaint, three more victims came forward in September of 2023 and January of 2024, and reported to have been sexually abused by Alfaro Lopez at the same church.
Each of the offenses occurred between 2016 and 2018.
In March of 2024, SVID detectives applied for and received an arrest warrant, charging 33-year-old Alfaro Lopez with multiple offenses to include sex abuse of a minor, second-degree sex offense and third-degree sex offense. The victims were between the ages of six and 12-years-old at the time of the offenses, and Alfaro Lopez was 25 to 27-years-old at the time of the offenses.
Alfaro Lopez is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
