Detectives Investigate Layhill Road Fatal Collision; Victim’s Identity Released

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, March 12, 2024

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Monday, March 11, 2024.

 

At approximately 2:34 p.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Layhill Road and Bel Pre Road for the report of a two-car collision.

 

The investigation has revealed that 77-year-old Maria Perdomo, of Silver Spring was driving a red 2013 Subaru Outback. Perdomo was making a left turn from northbound Layhill Road onto westbound Bel Pre Road when she collided with a black 2019 Tesla Model Y that was traveling southbound on Layhill Road.

 

Perdomo was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The adult male driver of the Tesla was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

 

The cause of this collision is still under investigation by CRU detectives.
