Twenty-Three-Year-Old Arrested for Thayer Avenue Armed Carjacking; Additional Suspects Outstanding

For Immediate Release: Thursday, April 11, 2024

Gaithersburg, MD – 23-year-old, Christopher Eugene Light of Washington, D.C., has been arrested and charged for an armed carjacking that occurred in Silver Spring.

On Monday, February 5, 2024, at approximately 4:20 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the area of Thayer Avenue and Mayor Lane for the report of an armed carjacking.

The preliminary investigation by detectives has revealed that three suspects, armed with handguns with blue lasers and an assault rifle exited a white Audi SQ5 and approached two victims who were inside of their vehicle. The suspects ordered the victims to get out of their vehicle and stole personal property. The suspects then left the scene in the victim’s 2017 Mercedes E300, followed by the white Audi.

Both vehicles were later located unoccupied. It was determined that the white Audi SQ5 had been reported stolen from New Jersey in October of 2023.

Through the course of the investigation, Light was developed as one of the suspects.

On Monday, March 25, 2024, Light was taken into custody in Washington D.C., and is currently awaiting extradition to Montgomery County, where he has been charged with armed carjacking, armed robbery and other firearm related charges.

Detectives continue to search for two additional suspects. The two suspects are described as Black males of an unknown age.
