Detectives Investigate University Boulevard East Fatality; Victim's Identity Released

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Sunday, May 19, 2024.

At approximately 8:14 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of University Boulevard East and Buckingham Drive for the report of a two-vehicle collision.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver of a 2018 Audi Q5 was traveling eastbound on University Boulevard East when it struck a 2013 Honda CR-V, that was attempting to turn left from Buckingham Drive onto University Boulevard East, and the Honda hit a tree.

The driver and three passengers of the Audi were uninjured.

The adult male driver of the Honda was transported to an area hospital, with injuries that were initially thought to be non-life threatening. On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The decedent has been identified as 79-year-old, Adolfo Cabrera, of Silver Spring.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
