Detectives Investigate Rockville Pike Armed Robbery

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating an armed robbery of the Tobacco Hut that occurred on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in the 11500 block of Rockville Pike. Detectives have released surveillance video of the suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that at approximately 6:30 p.m., the suspect entered the business and demanded merchandise. When the employee did not comply with the suspect’s demands, he went behind the counter and threatened the victim. The victim then complied, and the suspect left the store with stolen merchandise.

Detectives have released surveillance photos of the suspect, who is described as a White male, approximately 20 to 25-years-old, 5-feet, 6-inches to 5-feet, 8-inches tall with a slim build. He was described as wearing a red baseball cap, a black hooded sweatshirt with “Champion” written on the front, black baggie pants, white sneakers with black laces and carrying a black backpack. He is believed to have a star shaped tattoo, scar or piercing under his left eye.
