Two Men Arrested in Connection to Silver Spring Armed Carjacking and Robbery

Gaithersburg, MD- 19-year-old Ruben Ramirez, of Laurel, and 20-year-old Darrell Alvin Brown, of Germantown, have been arrested and charged with an armed carjacking and robbery they allegedly committed on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

At approximately 2 a.m., 2nd District officers responded to the 1900 block of East West Hwy., for the report of an armed carjacking that just occurred.

The investigation by the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division revealed that the adult male victim had just parked and was walking to his apartment building, when he was approached by three unknown male suspects, one Hispanic male and two Black males. One of the suspects displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s car keys, to which the victim complied. The other two suspects then demanded the victim’s phone. After giving them his phone, the victim ran to his apartment and called police. The suspects took the victim’s 2021 Toyota Camry and left the scene.

On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, the victim’s vehicle and two of the suspects, later identified as Ramirez and Brown, were located. They were taken into custody without incident. At the time of the arrest, officers found a Glock 43 Gen X 9mm handgun near the front passenger seat.

Ramirez and Brown were transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit where they have been charged with armed robbery, armed carjacking, assault and multiple counts of theft and firearm related charges.

They are currently being held without bond.

Detectives continue to search for the third suspect.
