UPDATE:

The Montgomery County Department of Police would like to correct information previously shared during the extensive search for Fawzan Hassan. During the investigation on July 27 and 28, 2024, statements were made suggesting that Fawzan may be “autistic or non-verbal.” However, his parents have informed MCPD that, based on their firsthand knowledge and Fawzan’s medical records, this information was inaccurate.

The Montgomery County Police Department has apologized to the family for this error and has taken steps to prevent similar inaccuracies in the future. We also want to emphasize that this error did not affect the investigation or the actions taken to locate Fawzan.
