17-Year-Old Male Charged in Connection to Hartford Avenue Shooting

Gaithersburg, MD - Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged a 17-year-old male with a shooting that occurred on Friday, February 2, 2024, in the 8100 block of Hartford Avenue in Silver Spring.

 

The investigation by detectives has revealed that an adult male and his 17-year-old son were moving property from one vehicle to another on Hartford Avenue when four suspects got out of a Honda Civic and approached them. The armed suspects attempted to steal the adult victim’s vehicle. A physical altercation occurred between the suspects and the victims, leading to the adult victim getting shot in the head and abdomen. After the shooting, the suspects left the scene in the Honda.

 

The shooting victim was treated and released from an area hospital.

 

During the investigation, detectives identified the 17-year-old as one of the suspects involved in the shooting.

 

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant against the suspect charging him with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.  

 

On Friday, August 9, 2024, the suspect who was held on unrelated charges in a detention center in Prince George’s County was transported to the Montgomery County Processing Unit, where he was served with the arrest warrant. He is being held without bond.
