Detectives Investigate New Hampshire Avenue Fatal Pedestrian Collision; Victim's Identity Released

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a pedestrian fatality that occurred on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Rodney Road.
 
At approximately 4:40 a.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a pedestrian collision.
 
The investigation has revealed that the pedestrian, a WSSC Water employee, was working at the time, when he was struck by an intoxicated driver of a black 2011 Volkswagen CC, traveling southbound on New Hampshire Avenue.
 
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The decedent has been identified as 39-year-old, Ernest Joseph Dyson of Clinton.
 
This is an active and ongoing investigation, and CRU detectives are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call (240) 773-6620.
