Montgomery County Police Investigate Layhill Road Fatal Collision

For Immediate Release: Monday, March 3, 2025

Gaithersburg, MD – The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is investigating a fatal collision that occurred at approximately 12:48 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the intersection of Layhill and Norbeck Roads.

The crash involved a yellow 2006 Freightliner truck pulling a black 2025 Brazos trailer and a 2021 Kia Seltos.

The driver of the Kia, identified as 28-year-old Jiwon Kim of Silver Spring, was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial investigation revealed that the Freightliner was traveling eastbound on Norbeck Road when it collided with the northbound Kia at the intersection.
The tractor-trailer dragged the SUV several hundred feet before coming to a stop.
