Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division, Robbery Section have arrested and charged 20-year-old Roniyah Thomas of District Heights, MD, in connection with an attempted murder and attempted carjacking that occurred in Chevy Chase.
On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at approximately 7:42 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting near the intersection of South Park Avenue and The Hills Plaza. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately applied a tourniquet, and the victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The investigation determined that the victim was standing outside of his gray 2023 Subaru when an armed suspect approached and demanded his car keys. When the victim resisted, the suspect shot him before running away from the scene.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified Roniyah Thomas as the suspect. A warrant for her arrest was issued on March 10, 2025. On March 13, Thomas was taken into custody at her residence in District Heights. She has been charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, and attempted carjacking.
Thomas was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where she is currently awaiting a bond hearing.
