Drone Assists Officers with Handgun Arrest

Gaithersburg, MD - 18-year-old Wilmer Ventura of Silver Spring has been arrested and charged with handgun and drug related charges. 

On Thursday, April 10, 2025, officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District received a call for a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of Easley Street. 

Raven 3, one of MCPD’s Drone as First Responder units, arrived first on scene and located the suspicious vehicle unoccupied. Patrol officers responded and observed a handgun in plain sight on the passenger side floor. Raven 3 maintained a visual of the vehicle and plain clothes officers were called to assist. During a surveillance of the vehicle, two suspects returned and were observed engaging in a suspected drug transaction. The suspects then left in the vehicle and a traffic stop was initiated by plain clothes officers.  

 

During a search of the suspects and vehicle, plain clothes officers located a loaded handgun, cash, and a large quantity of suspected Fentanyl pills.  

Ventura was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit (CPU) where he is currently being held pending a bond hearing 

Ventura has been charged with CDS possession with the intent to distribute, possession of a loaded handgun on person, possession of a handgun on a person possession of a loaded handgun in a vehicle, possession of a handgun in a vehicle, possession of a handgun as a minor.
